A staple of Alberta’s rich history is the bison that have roamed the plains for thousands of years while being intertwined with our province’s Indigenous People. Their main role to the Indigenous People was providing sustenance, materials, and spiritual guidance. While once abundant, they were nearly eliminated by hunting in the late 19th century, dropping to an estimated population of 250. Today, conservation efforts have helped to reintroduce and maintain bison populations, allowing the free-range herds to thrive. Despite these efforts, they are still considered at risk. The bison is considered to be one of only a small handful of Alberta’s rare icons, prompting us to choose this icon to represent Arjazon Seed Trading’s brand around the world, while also spreading a little of Alberta’s heritage.

The initial design featured the bison, hand drawn onto white and green bags. In early 2023, after being positively received in international markets, a more colourful design was added to the selection; giving us the beautiful new bison branded bags we use today.
